The OKawa is our deluxe koto-style shinai, expertly crafted from high-quality keichiku bamboo. 

A koto shinai is designed to feel closer to a real katana, with a balance that is slightly heavier toward the tip. This forward-weighted design encourages correct cutting mechanics, proper hasuji, and full follow-through on strikes. Because the weight is not concentrated in the handle, the shinai naturally reveals flaws in form, helping practitioners become more aware of their swing and posture.

Training with a koto shinai also helps refine technique and grip control. It places greater emphasis on proper tenouchi, making clean strikes feel distinct while exposing sloppy or rushed movements. Over time, this leads to improved accuracy and consistency in men, kote, and do strikes, especially during kihon and kata practice.
